Mass Coordinator

This ministry provides support to our pastoral staff by handling many details involved in preparing for the celebration of our weekly liturgies. Responsibilities will include the preparation of both the facility and sacramentals for an assigned Mass. The Mass Coordinator would work with the other liturgical ministers to ensure that the Mass runs smoothly. A checklist of tasks that need to be completed will be available for the coordinator to use as a guide. Those interested in this ministry will attend one training session followed by one Mass to run through the checklist in a “live” setting. Coordinators would be assigned one Mass of their choosing per weekend, approximately twice a month.

Eucharistic Ministers

Fully initiated members of the community are invited to distribute the Body and Blood of Christ during Mass. Formation sessions for new Eucharistic ministers are scheduled periodically throughout the year and announced in the bulletin.

Ushers

The ushers assist in seating people, providing aid during Mass and distributing bulletins after Mass. Formation opportunities are scheduled on a regular basis to prepare the ministers of hospitality in their roles before, during, and at the conclusion of the liturgy. Assignments are according to Mass preference.

Lectors

Fully initiated members of the community are invited to proclaim the Word of God at Mass as well as at non-Eucharistic liturgies. Lectors serve on a rotating schedule and may indicate a Mass preference. Formation sessions for new Lectors are scheduled periodically throughout the year and announced in the bulletin.

Eucharistic Ministers to the Homebound

Fully initiated members of the community are trained to bring Eucharist to parishioners that are homebound or in extended care facilities. Scheduling varies depending on need. A training session is mandatory and occasional formational sessions will be scheduled throughout the year.

Greeters

Parishioners of all ages are invited to share in this ministry which provides special service to the parish by welcoming visitors and providing assistance to those with special needs. Formation opportunities are scheduled on a regular basis to prepare the ministers of hospitality. Greeters are usually scheduled once a month according to Mass preference. Attendance at one orientation meeting is expected.

Sacristan

Fully initiated members share in the service of the Lord’s table by preparing the church for liturgy. The Sacristan duties consist of setting up the bread and wine, as well as the plates, cups, and presider’s chalice in preparation for the distribution of Communion during the Mass. Sacristans also clean the vessels used for Communion when Mass has ended and they are scheduled on a rotating basis according to Mass preference. Attendance at an orientation and training session is required and will last about one hour.

Altar Servers

Boys and girls are invited to share in the parish liturgical ministries as altar servers. The young people not only learn about the celebration of the liturgy, but they also share with friends as they participate in social opportunities planned especially for them. Altar servers are scheduled several times a month on a rotating basis according to Mass preference. Training sessions are scheduled throughout the year.

Funeral Mass Servers

Some may be responsible for washing and ironing linens. Additional help is needed at Christmas and Easter.
