The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of Mary

The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of Mary normally falls on December 8th. This year (2024 Calendar Year), December 8th is also the 2nd Sunday of Advent. What happens? The liturgical law of the Church states that the 2nd Sunday of Advent takes precedence.Therefore, the masses on Sunday, December 8th will be for the 2nd Sunday of Advent.The celebration of Mary’s Immaculate Conception is moved to Monday, December 9th this year. However, the obligation to participate in the mass that day does not move. So, this year, Monday, December 9th is a holy day, but not a holy day of obligation.
